Words of Multimedia
Yes another new section, and this time, as if anyone really needs to be told, its all about multimedia. As for whats included here, well the primary focus is to cover digital video, audio and to a lesser extent graphics. Whats not covered, nor ever likely to be, are things like Macromedia flash or director
OK, so its covering just about anything but flash etc, but what operating systems are supported. Well the primary focus is Linux and Mac OSX, but from time to time other flavors of UNIX will make an appearance. Windoze on the other hand will never see the light of day on this page or anywhere else on this site, with the exception of the Dell stuff and thats only a throwback to much less enlightened times.
In the beginning, came analog video
Yes we are more or less still at the beginning of the video age, in that we are only just starting to see the widespread introduction of digital video, with relatively new media such as DVDs, Digital TV and the ever popular consumer digital video cameras. But even with these developments, the majority of video is still analog in nature, and yes this includes most broadcast free to air TV, and all VHS tapes.
So given that the video you are likely to be working with is analog you need to get it into a format that makes editing possible without horribly expensive editing hardware, and yes that means converting (capturing) into digital format, which is a good place to start.
