Hogwasher

Developer: Home Page License: Payware (60 day demo) Rating:

Internet news reader, online/offline operation, Thread tree display, Multipart binary support, Built in image viewer.

Now while this is still close to as good as it gets for OSX, its not perfect, and has not been updated in quite a while, which while normally is not a issue, in this case its not too Panther friendly. [more]

PithHelmet

Developer: Home Page License: Freeware Rating:

PithHelmet adds some some basic but powerful content filtering to Apple's Safari browser. The basic purpose is to block ad images, but there are other potential uses as well (blocking Flash, Shockwave or horrible midi loops). This is just a series of hacks on top of Apple's WebKit framework, but it seems to work rather effectively. Due to the manner in which PithHelmet blocks ad content, most types of advertising content can be caught in the filter - this includes images, javascript, css, text, iframes, popups and popunders.

This is one of the few apps that I just could not live without, its saving me money by not downloading adds and other assorted junk that some sites try any force on visitors. Apple should include PithHelmet with Safari. Highly Recommended [more]

Postfix Enabler

Developer: Home Page License: Shareware Rating:

It can help you turn on OS X 10.3's built-in mail server with just one click. Though Postfix on Panther is not that difficult to configure using the command line, using Postfix Enabler is still faster than doing it manually. One thing to note, is that this app is for Panther only, Jaguar uses sendmail rather than postfix for its mail server. [more]

Thunderbird

Developer: Home Page License: Mozilla Rating:

Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on Mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to being part of the Mozilla suite. [more]
